166 Town Cats resident kitties assisted with very generous vet and vet tech help!!

Town Cats received very generous help from vets and vet technicians to help examine and check up on our 166 residents, some who are feral!

Town Cats is off to a great start in 2010!  We have Diane Foxen, a Town Cat volunteer to thank for this!  Diane brought her vet, Dr. Hamilton, who owns the Veterinary Internal Medicine Services Clinic in Fremont, Ca to Town Cats for the Thanksgiving Holiday Open House.  Dr. Hamilton adopted one of our residents, Ping, who is very happy at his new home!  Dr. Hamilton saw how many cats we have to care for on a daily basis and she wanted to help.  So she arranged for a group of veterinarians, veterinary students and technicans to come spend a day at Town Cats and provide their services - en gratia, pro bono, no charge! - to all 166 residents at the Town Cats shelter; plus they left enough supplies to treat another 50 or so we have at the pet store adoption centers and foster homes too.  So, this past Sunday January 17th they came down and all the cats at Town Cats received thorough examinations, ear cleanings with treatment plus deworming and flea treatments too!  They also took some of our special, senior kitizens back to their clinic for further work/diagnostics too, again, all at no cost to Town Cats.

This visit also revealed that we have a lot more feral/skittish cats than we thought.  We had to "net" many of the cats to catch them all.  Most of these skittish ones came in as a result of the huge city of San Jose Arzino Ranch project in 2008 where we had to remove 100 cats from the city property and as a result of the 2009 state of California Agnews Developmental Facility project when we had to remove 80 cats from that property.  In addition to the 166 residents at Town Cats, we also built two enclosures on one of our volunteer's property to hold 26 more ferals.  So we have about 191 adult cats who need homes; about 90 are feral/skittish.  Please tell your family, friends and associates if they want a low maintenance cat to contact Town Cats.  We deliver the cats spayed and even loan them the imprint pen!  Or if they want to provide foster care, that would be wonderful too as many will do well with a little one on one handling...here with so many, they tend to go "native"...

This visit also revealed that we have about 20 cats that require dentals and/or have severe gum disease/stomatitis.  We need your donations to help get all the dental work done so they won't be in pain.  The vets who visited us and did the exams etc are specialists and don't do dental/teeth pulling, so we need to use our regular local vets who give us discounts but even so, it still runs about $500 each.  So we need to raise $10,000 for the dental care.

Thank you so much!
