Why Declawing is Not an Option

At Town Cats we are firmly against declawing.  We state in our adoption application that declawing is not allowed.  Declawing may protect your furniture, but it does little to protect your cat.  The long term effects of declawing your cat can include litterbox avoidance, biting and aggression, and arthritis or crippling.

Below are several articles about cats, claws, why they need them and what really happens when a cat is declawed and some safe alternatives.  We strongly encourage you to seek out other options to declawing such as nail trimming, scratch posts, Soft Claws, or Feliway.  Your cat and ultimately you will be much happier.
