Working & Special Cat Adoptions

Outdoor/Working Cat Adoptions

Will Work for (cat) Food! Do you need help with rodent control in your barn, garden, winery, warehouse, or garage? You might be looking for a Town Cats “Working Cat”!

If you’re in need of a skilled, dependable (and undeniably adorable) pest manager, our Working Cats are up for the job. These cats prefer life outside the traditional home and thrive in environments where they can put their natural hunting instincts to work. They offer an eco-friendly, humane alternative to conventional pest control—and they take their role seriously.

All they ask in return is a safe place to call home, along with food, water, shelter from the elements, and long-term care.

Before getting to work, each cat will go through a brief acclimation period—kept safely confined in a kennel for a minimum of 30 days—to help them bond with their new environment. After that, they’re ready to get to work.

Adoption fees are $75 per cat. Each Working Cat is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas.

Silver Whiskers Program – Senior Cat Adoptions

Some of the cats in our shelter are older; they may have a little silver in their fur, but are calmer and not as likely to try to climb the curtains as a kitten. They often are just fine with being alone if necessary. Please consider adopting an older kitty! Also ask us about our Silver Whiskers Program (senior cats for senior people), if you are over 60 and the cat is over 9 years old then the adoption is FREE!

As you probably know, Town Cats adopts out over 200 cats every year, mostly through our Adoption Centers at pet supply stores. What you may not know is that in the past, we also have cared for a number of cats who have been with us for multiple years. These long term resident cats lived at our previous shelter building in Morgan Hill, some for up to 15 years. These wonderful cats had never experienced the feeling of having a home and their own family to love. We were happy to find them their Forever Home full of love and support that they deserved.

Legacy Cat Program

In 1997, Rosi Mirko founded Town Cats—an adoption center and sanctuary—with the support of her husband, Albert. Her mission was to alleviate the suffering of stray, abandoned, unwanted, and feral cats while advocating for all cats in Santa Clara County. Rosi’s extraordinary dedication to both the community and the cats she served continues to be remembered through her enduring compassion and commitment to saving lives.

Rosi’s long-term Legacy Cats were cats who had spent years—some more than a decade—waiting patiently for their forever homes. The Legacy Cat Program was created to honor their resilience and to connect them with compassionate adopters willing to carry on Rosi’s vision.

As part of the program, these cats were included in Town Cats’ “In It for Life” initiative, which covered basic medical care for the duration of each cat’s life, and all adoption fees were waived to help remove barriers to adoption.

In celebration of Rosi’s Legacy Cats, Town Cats also partnered with artists to create one-of-a-kind portraits that captured each cat’s unique personality and beauty. These original works of art were sent home with adopters as a heartfelt thank-you for giving these special cats the loving homes they deserved.

Today, the Legacy Cat Program stands as a testament to Rosi’s lasting impact—every Legacy Cat has found their home, and her legacy lives on in each life she helped change.
